And My Light

Thoughts on life, love, and nothing in particular.

hyperfocus

The upside (or downside?) of ADD: “this tendency to become absorbed in tasks that are stimulating and rewarding is called hyperfocus…. It is not unusual for these individuals to become so immersed in a task that they are oblivious to everything else going on around them.”*

instead of

being sucked up into the whole chaotic mess that is consuming everyone else around me right now because of its sheer foolishness and utter bullshit quality, I should turn my thoughts elsewhere. To hummus, for example. And yoga. And chocolate. And cats. And cat memes. And any vaguely snarky meme. And vacation. And the beach.

avoidance

When there are things about myself that I don’t want to think about or delve into or hard decisions to be made that require planning, deliberation, and, ultimately, sacrifice, I deliberately focus on other people’s problems as a form of procrastination.  Thus, I become Ms. Counselor, running to everyone’s rescue, harboring everyone’s secrets, offering advice, seeking resources, and attempting to be altruistic.  But it’s all driven from a selfish motive — to avoid doing things I don’t want to do.

Dramz

Lots of drama lately on the work front. My instant response is: “Fuck it, I’m going to the beach!”

Having watched Inglourious Basterds for the first time recently, I can’t help but become obsessed with Christoph Waltz.  Oh, Mr. Waltz, where have you been all my life?

¡Viva Espana!

I might have a chance to go to Spain (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) next year to teach English!  At first I was skeptical, but now I’d give anything to live in Europe again, hopefully become nearly-fluent in Spanish, and meet some Spanish lesbianas. Hope, hope, hope!
